ESB Engineers Week 2026

Since 1951, National Engineers Week has helped to increase public awareness and appreciation of the engineering profession and to celebrate the accomplishments of engineers - and this year is no different! With 15 events across 5 fun-filled days, the Engineers Week Council has pulled together quite the lineup this year.

The Education Foundation and Engineers Week Council thank its sponsors and volunteers for their contributions to Engineers Week.

Plumbing System Design & Public Health

Hosted by the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) Baltimore Chapter

A thought-provoking program and luncheon for high school students and advisors to learn about the different facets of Plumbing Engineering. Plumbing protects public health and encompasses a wide range of things you use on a daily basis—from the fixtures in your home to those in public spaces like schools and hospitals. A team of Plumbing experts have had a hand in making sure they are all safe for you to use. Join us to learn more!

 

Quantum Computing Day

A program to engage students with demonstrations and exercises to introduce them to the promise and challenges of Quantum Computing.

Green Building Technology

Hosted by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Baltimore Chapter

An interactive program and luncheon for High School Students and Advisors to meet with engineers, discuss career opportunities and complete a design challenge using green building technology. Students will gain valuable insights into the daily activities of engineers and engage in hands-on activities designed to explore engineering principles and the exciting world of green technology.

For Middle and High School Students and Advisors to introduce them to the different branches of civil engineering and show them how a team of engineers interacts to design and construct a project.

Aviation Day

Hosted by the Maryland Aviation Administration

Experience a day of hands-on learning at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport! Step behind the scenes of one of the region’s busiest transportation centers. Discover how engineering keeps the airport running and aircraft flying safely and efficiently. Explore cutting-edge airport technology and equipment, learn what it takes to expand an airport while it’s still operating, and meet the professionals who make it all happen. This immersive experience offers a unique look at the exciting intersection of aviation and engineering.

Construction Management Day

A Program and Luncheon for High School Students and Advisors to introduce them the exciting field of Construction Management through interactive discussions, demonstrations, and work sessions to learn about Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), project bidding, estimating, and scheduling.

Cybersecurity Day

Hosted by the Cybersecurity Association of Maryland

An interactive program and luncheon for High School Students to experience the use of cybersecurity to protect our nation from foreign adversaries and the career paths available within the cybersecurity field.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering

Hosted by the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Baltimore Chapter

A Program and Luncheon for High School Girls and Advisors to introduce them to the field of civil engineering, provide an opportunity to hear from successful women who have made a career in the transportation industry and to practice what they have learned via several fun hands on activities.

Water Taxi Industry Day on the Water

Hosted by Sail Baltimore & Baltimore Water Taxi

The journey begins from the Fells Point water taxi landing where you'll board a USCG-certified passenger vessel for a journey around the Patapsco River. Before getting underway, there will be a brief introduction from the crew outlining the objectives and itinerary for the journey. We'll start with a tour the Inner Harbor area and hear from various local stakeholders that have their businesses on the water. As well, we'll journey out past Fort McHenry towards the Francis Scott Key Bridge work area, cruising along the Port of Baltimore along the way, and hear how progress is coming along. The journey will end once back in Fells Point.

Energy Day

Hosted by BGE & the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA)

High school students are invited to a program and luncheon designed to spark career awareness and exploration in the growing energy industry. Whether you’re a thinker, tinkerer, engineer, or environmentalist, this event highlights rewarding opportunities in electric, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energy. Presented in partnership with the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA), the experience connects students with professionals and showcases how energy careers can empower individuals to make a difference in their communities and shape a sustainable future.

Technology in Transportation

Hosted by the MD Department of Transportation (MDOT)

A Program and Luncheon for introducing Middle School Students to the steps the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) takes to plan, design, construct and maintain roads/bridges using various modules of interactive technology.

Maritime Training and Simulation

Hosted by the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) & Sail Baltimore 

Program and Luncheon to introduce Middle and High School Students to the maritime industry and the significant role it plays in much of everyday life. Many of the products we use or consume daily are shipped to local stores from overseas and our Maritime workers make this possible. Students will hear from ship captains and local pilots and will participate in fun hands-on activities like knot tying and compass navigation. They will have an immersive experience on one of MITAGS full-mission ship simulators, which are the largest in North America.

MDTA Tunnel Tour

Hosted by the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA)

This program and luncheon introduce high school students to the engineering and decision-making behind Maryland’s critical infrastructure. MDTA Operations staff will lead a behind-the-scenes tour of the Fort McHenry Tunnel, including its ventilation fans, stormwater pump room, electrical systems, and the lower-level “basement” area. During lunch, students will learn how engineers and planners decide when to build a tunnel compared to a bridge, what factors influence design choices, and how these decisions support long-term mobility and safety across Maryland.
